Just reminiscing about this experience is making my mouth water for the food at South Side Diner; I can actually taste their skyscraper burger.
The South Side Diner is a simplistic restaurant with a nostalgic feel to it; it’s as if you were taken away from Brisbane and sent to a 50s diner somewhere in America. The atmosphere has been created perfectly, with Buddy Holly playing in the background, milkshakes served in metal containers and dining booths.
For our starters, a friend of mine highly recommended we order the fried mozzarella cheese sticks and sure enough I was not disappointed in the slightest. The mozzarella cheese sticks has a crispy crunchy outside and housed a delicious gooey melted goodness in the middle! I feel like these sticks just may be god’s gift to mankind!
Our mains consisted of New York SKYSCRAPER burgers, a basket of beer battered onion rings, a Cobb salad, big fries for the table and Buffalo wings. The New York SKYSCRAPER was scrumcious; it’s the best burger I’ve eaten in 6 years and is now my third best burger I’ve had in my life to date. I smothered the wings in a smoked tabasco sauce which gave it a crunchy smoked-fried flavour that you imagine dreams are made of.
We saved enough room for dessert making sure we at least try a pie and a shake, our waiter recommended the cherry pie and the Reese’s peanut butter shake. The pie crust of the pie had almost a cheesecake texture with a zesty acidic tang of the cherry filling and with the ice cream, which tasted exactly like a cherry sherbet lollipop, complimented each other perfectly. The Reese’s peanut butter shake tastes exactly how it sounds; it has a slightly salty and sugary taste of a peanut butter cup but purely liquid form. My friend described it as childhood in a glass and I think that’s the perfect way to put it.
One of the key defining factors for our dining experience was our waiter Josh; he was spot on with recommendations, product knowledge and his charm made the overall night an enjoyable experience.
Overall, South Side Diner is a great place to hang out with your friends and get good comfort food. The unique atmosphere allows you to enjoy yourselves and create a memorable experience.
